Each endpoint returns data related to public and bank holidays for over 100 countries and their regions. The "Holidays of a year" endpoint provides a list of holidays for a specified year, while the "Is it a holiday?" endpoint checks if a specific date is a holiday. The "Countries and regions" endpoint lists available countries and their subdivisions.
Key fields include "country," "state," "year," "count," "holidays" (with details like "date," "name," "type," and "substitute"), and "isHoliday" for date checks. These fields provide essential information about holidays and their characteristics.
The main parameters include "country," "state," and "year" for the "Holidays of a year" endpoint, and "date" for the "Is it a holiday?" endpoint. Users can specify these parameters to customize their data requests based on their needs.
The response data is structured in JSON format. For example, the "Holidays of a year" endpoint returns an object containing the country code, state, year, count of holidays, and an array of holiday objects, each detailing the date, name, type, and substitute status.
The data is sourced from date-holidays (CC BY 3.0). This ensures that the information is publicly available and can be used freely, while also maintaining a level of transparency regarding the data's origin.
Typical use cases include planning events around holidays, developing applications that require holiday awareness, and providing localized holiday information for businesses and travelers. This data can enhance user experience by integrating holiday awareness into various services.
Users can utilize the returned data by parsing the JSON response to extract relevant holiday information. For instance, they can check if a specific date is a holiday and display localized holiday names in applications, enhancing user engagement and functionality.
Data accuracy is maintained through regular updates and checks against reliable sources. The API leverages a community-driven approach, allowing for corrections and enhancements to be made, ensuring that users receive the most accurate holiday information available.
