If you are reading this, something on RapidAPI has probably already gone wrong: an overage you did not see coming, a refund nobody approved, or a support ticket that came back with “contact the API provider.” This guide breaks down RapidAPI pricing in 2026 (plans, overage fees, the marketplace cut) and compares it with Zyla API Hub on what costs you money and time. Every RapidAPI fact comes from its own terms, its docs or public reviews, with the date we checked it.
Quick comparison: RapidAPI vs Zyla API Hub
| RapidAPI | Zyla API Hub | |
|---|---|---|
| Who owns it | Nokia, since November 2024 (TechCrunch, 13 Nov 2024). The Terms name “Nokia of America Corporation, dba Rapid.” | Zyla Labs. The API marketplace is the whole business. |
| Who answers support | The API provider. RapidAPI Terms (May 2026): “Each API Provider (not Rapid) is responsible for all support.” | Zyla. The Hub owns the ticket and deals with the provider for you. |
| Who builds the APIs | Third-party publishers, each with its own quality bar | Mostly built and run by Zyla in-house |
| Going over your quota | Set by each provider: a hard stop, or an overage fee on every extra call with no ceiling | Soft Limit: up to one extra quota at the price on the plan card, then it stops. You can turn it off. |
| Marketplace fee | Rapid keeps 25% of every payment to publishers (since 15 Nov 2025) | Most APIs are first-party, so there is no publisher split |
| Keys | One RapidAPI key, plus a host header per API | One Bearer key for every Hub API |
| Trustpilot (22 Oct 2026) | 2.2 / 5 from 174 reviews | 4.2 / 5 from 64 reviews |
| MCP for AI agents | Yes | Yes: mcp.zylalabs.com, same key and subscriptions |
RapidAPI vs Zyla API Hub: pricing comparison
Rules and fees matter, but the first thing you compare is the plan price. Here is a real, like-for-like case: live football scores and match data from SofaScore, one of the most requested data types on both marketplaces. On the left, the most-subscribed SofaScore data API on RapidAPI (about 20,000 subscribers). On the right, Zyla’s SofaScore - Live API. Plans as listed on 22 October 2026.
| Plan | Most popular SofaScore API on RapidAPI | SofaScore - Live API on Zyla |
|---|---|---|
| Lower-cost plan | $15 / 15,000 requests | $24.99 / 300,000 requests |
| About $100 a month | $100 / 150,000 requests | $99.99 / 1,500,000 requests |
| Cost per 1,000 requests | $1.00 and $0.67 | $0.083 and $0.067 |
| Past the quota | Hard limit on these two plans (requests stop) | Soft Limit at $0.0001083 per extra request, up to one extra quota |
| Rate limit | 20 requests/second (Pro), 50 (Ultra) | 120–240 requests/minute, depending on plan |
At about $100 a month you get 10 times more requests on Zyla. Both serve SofaScore data with different endpoints and JSON, and if you need many calls per second, check the rate limit as well as the price.
RapidAPI vs Zyla: calculate your monthly SofaScore API cost
Enter your monthly requests to compare the most popular SofaScore API on RapidAPI with SofaScore - Live API on Zyla. Prices as listed on 22 October 2026.
Assumptions: both services bill per request. RapidAPI prices are the most-subscribed SofaScore data API (Pro and Ultra stop at the quota; Mega bills $0.001 per extra request). Zyla prices are SofaScore - Live API plans; extra requests use Soft Limit (up to one extra quota). Endpoints and JSON differ, and RapidAPI plans allow more requests per second (20–100 vs 120–240 per minute).

Subscription plans
On RapidAPI, each provider sets its own plans, usually up to four tiers (BASIC, PRO, ULTRA, MEGA). Each tier has a monthly price, a request quota and a rate limit. Many APIs include a free BASIC tier, but some require a card even for that one. Plans are paid at the start of each month.
Request limits and RapidAPI overage fees
What happens past the quota is the provider’s choice, and this is where RapidAPI bills hurt most. According to RapidAPI’s pricing docs (updated June 2025):
- Overage is billed per call. Unless the provider set a hard limit, every call past the quota carries an overage fee.
- There is no ceiling by default. Only a provider who chooses a hard limit can stop the meter.
- Alerts are best effort. The docs say a quota email “is not a guarantee” and that tracking your usage is your job.
The result shows up in reviews. One user was “charged thousands due to consistently going over limit” before noticing (Trustpilot, 10 Nov 2025). Another expected the API to stop at the quota and got $255.85 in overages instead (Trustpilot, 12 Sep 2026). Check each plan’s overage line before you subscribe.
RapidAPI marketplace fees for API publishers
Since 15 November 2025, Rapid “takes a flat 25% marketplace fee on all payments made through the API Hub,” up from 20%, and PayPal payout fees come on top. Publishers pay this fee, not consumers: it is not an extra line on your invoice. Publishers do set their prices knowing a quarter of the revenue goes to the marketplace, and some have complained publicly about the increase (Trustpilot, 17 Mar 2026). On Zyla, most of the catalog is first-party, so no publisher split is built into those prices.
API reliability, monitoring and support
Support: “contact the API provider”
On RapidAPI, the company that bills you is not the one that fixes your API. Its Terms say the provider, not Rapid, handles “all support and all claims,” and describe Rapid’s role as “enabling access, facilitating billing, and providing infrastructure support.” In August 2026 a buyer was told “You need to contact the API provider directly” (Trustpilot, 25 Aug 2026). In July 2026 another got the same answer about a quota error on an API they had just paid for (Trustpilot, 16 Jul 2026). In both cases RapidAPI’s public reply confirmed it does not manage the APIs it lists.
On Zyla API Hub you talk to Zyla. Most of the catalog is ours, so the support team usually works directly with the engineers who run the API. When a listing comes from a third party, Zyla takes it up with that provider for you. Several of Zyla’s recent Trustpilot reviews are about exactly this, with tickets answered within minutes or closed within a day (4.2 / 5 from 64 reviews).
Reliability: who removes APIs that stop working
On an open marketplace, quality depends on each provider, and a listing stays up until its publisher removes it. One example: on 22 October 2026, one of the most-subscribed Instagram Reels downloaders on RapidAPI, with about 5,000 subscribers, showed a 13% service level and was still selling paid plans.
Zyla monitors the APIs it lists and discontinues the ones that keep failing on quality, response time or service level. Each listing shows its average response time. For example, SofaScore - Live API averaged 537 ms in October 2026.
How Zyla Soft Limit works
What happens when you exceed your API quota?
There are three common ways a marketplace handles the moment your app goes past its monthly quota:
- Hard limit. Requests fail as soon as the quota runs out. Your bill is predictable, but your users see errors until the next cycle.
- Uncapped overage. Requests keep working and every extra call is billed, with no ceiling. Your app stays up, but a bug or a traffic spike can produce a very large invoice.
- Zyla Soft Limit. Requests keep working for up to one extra quota at a per-call price shown on the plan card. Then they stop.
A worked example with real prices. Take the lowest-cost SofaScore - Live API plan: 300,000 requests for $24.99. Its card lists the extra-request price as $0.0001083. Say a busy match week pushes you to 375,000 requests:
- The first 300,000 are covered by the plan.
- The next 75,000 keep working under Soft Limit: 75,000 × $0.0001083 = $8.12, billed at the end of the cycle.
- If usage kept climbing, requests would stop at 600,000 (one extra quota), so the extra charge can never exceed about $32.49 on this plan.
Soft Limit is on by default for paid plans. You can turn it off for any subscription if you prefer a hard stop. Extra requests are not free: they are billed at the listed price. If you keep landing in Soft Limit, a bigger plan is usually the better deal.
Why developers choose Zyla API Hub
- One API key. One Bearer key works for every API you subscribe to, with no host header per API.
- A managed API experience. Zyla handles support for every listing, builds most of the catalog in-house, shows average response times and removes APIs that keep failing. The same subscriptions are available to AI agents over MCP at
mcp.zylalabs.com. - Predictable usage and pricing. Each plan shows its quota, its rate limit and its extra-request price up front, and Soft Limit has a ceiling. Your first Hub API comes with a 7-day trial (up to 50 requests).
How to migrate from RapidAPI to Zyla
Migrating from RapidAPI to Zyla: what actually changes?
Moving an integration is more than swapping a URL. The same data can come from a different endpoint with a different JSON shape. Plan for these points:
- Authentication. RapidAPI uses
X-RapidAPI-KeyplusX-RapidAPI-Host. Zyla uses one header:Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY. - Base URL and endpoints. Zyla endpoints look like
https://zylalabs.com/api/<api_id>/<api-name>/<endpoint_id>/<endpoint>. Copy them from the API docs. - Request headers. Drop the RapidAPI headers. Keep any headers the endpoint documents.
- Query parameters. Names and formats can differ (for example
sport_slug=footballon SofaScore - Live API). Map them one by one. - JSON responses. Expect different field names and nesting. Put a small adapter between the API and the rest of your code.
- Error codes. On Zyla,
401means you are not subscribed to that API, and429means a rate limit or the plan quota was reached. Each error comes with a JSONmessage. - Rate limits. Compare requests per minute or per second, not only the monthly quota.
- Testing. Use the 7-day trial to call the endpoints with your real inputs and compare the output with what you get today.
- Gradual rollout. Send a small share of traffic to Zyla behind a flag, compare results, then move the rest.
- Rollback. Keep the RapidAPI integration and the flag until the new one has run cleanly for a full billing cycle.
Here is the same idea in code. The RapidAPI host and path depend on the listing you use today. The Zyla call is the real “Get live matches” endpoint of SofaScore - Live API:
# Before: RapidAPI (host and path depend on your listing)
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://YOUR-LISTING.p.rapidapi.com/YOUR/ENDPOINT",
headers={"X-RapidAPI-Key": "YOUR_RAPIDAPI_KEY", "X-RapidAPI-Host": "YOUR-LISTING.p.rapidapi.com"},
)
# After: Zyla API Hub
r = requests.get(
"https://zylalabs.com/api/12787/sofascore-live-api/25092/get-live-matches",
params={"sport_slug": "football"},
headers={"Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"},
)
if r.status_code == 429:
print(r.json()["message"]) # rate limit or plan quota reached
SofaScore - Live API has more than 60 endpoints (schedules, tournaments, teams, players, match stats), all in the API docs. If you need scores from several sources in one place, see the Live Scores API.
RapidAPI is now the Nokia API Hub: what it means for you
These are the facts. In November 2024 Nokia bought Rapid’s technology assets, including the hub (TechCrunch, 13 Nov 2024). Nokia said the purchase was to strengthen its network API solutions and ecosystem. The Terms now name Nokia of America as the operator, the docs call the product the “Nokia API Hub,” and the marketplace fee went from 20% to 25%.
Here is our reading. None of this proves Nokia is walking away from the marketplace. But a telecom group whose stated goal is network APIs has different priorities from a developer buying sports, flight or currency data. Zyla API Hub has one business, the API marketplace, and its catalog, support and monitoring all serve the people who subscribe to its APIs.
Which API marketplace should you choose?
If the API you need only exists on RapidAPI, read each plan’s overage line and set a spending alert on your card. If the data you need is on Zyla, compare the exact plan as we did above. When the numbers work, you get one key, a bill with a ceiling and a support team that owns the problem. For more reasons to switch, see our RapidAPI alternative guide. If you also run scrapers, read our Apify pricing comparison.

RapidAPI pricing FAQ
How does RapidAPI pricing work?
Each API provider sets its own plans, usually up to four tiers (BASIC, PRO, ULTRA, MEGA). Each tier has a monthly price, a request quota and a rate limit. Past the quota, the provider either stops requests or bills an overage fee per call.
How can I avoid RapidAPI overage fees?
Prefer plans marked as a hard limit, track usage yourself (RapidAPI says its quota emails are not guaranteed), and set a spending alert with your card issuer. On Zyla, Soft Limit caps extra usage at one extra quota, or you can turn it off for a hard stop.
Is Zyla API Hub cheaper than RapidAPI?
It depends on the API, so compare the plan for the exact data you need. For live SofaScore football data, Zyla’s $24.99 plan includes 300,000 requests, while the most popular SofaScore API on RapidAPI gives 15,000 for $15 (22 October 2026).
What happens on Zyla API Hub when I reach my quota?
With Soft Limit on (the default on paid plans), the API keeps working for up to one extra quota at the per-call price shown on your plan card, billed at the end of the cycle. Then requests stop until you upgrade or the cycle resets. You can turn Soft Limit off for any subscription.
Does RapidAPI charge consumers the 25% marketplace fee?
No. The 25% is taken from publishers’ revenue, not added to your invoice. It applies to every payment made through the hub, so publishers set their prices with it in mind.
Can I get a refund on RapidAPI?
Its Terms (May 2026) say no refunds are issued on cancellation, and refunds of overage need the API provider’s permission.
Who owns RapidAPI now? Is it the Nokia API Hub?
Yes. Nokia bought Rapid’s technology assets, including the API hub, in November 2024. The docs now call it the Nokia API Hub, and the Terms name Nokia of America Corporation as the operator.
Is RapidAPI legit?
Yes. It is a real, Nokia-owned marketplace. Its Trustpilot score was 2.2 out of 5 from 174 reviews on 22 October 2026, and most complaints are about billing, overages and support being sent back to the API provider.
Does Zyla API Hub have a free plan?
No. Each API has paid monthly or annual plans with an included quota. Your first Hub API comes with a 7-day trial (up to 50 requests).
Does Zyla API Hub have MCP like RapidAPI?
Yes. Point any MCP client at https://mcp.zylalabs.com/mcp with your Hub key. It uses the same catalog and subscriptions.
