Validate EU VAT numbers via VIES and IBANs with BIC lookup. Cached, outage-proof.
The Validate VAT and IBAN endpoint returns validation results for EU VAT numbers and IBANs, including validity status, formatted IBAN, country code, bank details, and error messages if applicable. The Usage and Plan Status endpoint provides information on the current plan and usage metrics, while the Health Check endpoint indicates service status and version.
Key fields include "valid" (indicating validity), "iban_formatted" (formatted IBAN), "country_code" (country of the IBAN), "bank" (containing BIC and bank name), and "error" (any validation errors). The Usage endpoint includes "used" (calls made) and "reset_at" (next reset date).
The returned data is structured in JSON format. Each response contains nested objects, such as "iban" for IBAN details and "usage" for plan information. This structured format allows easy parsing and integration into applications.
The Validate VAT and IBAN endpoint provides validation results for VAT numbers and IBANs, including company details when available. The Usage endpoint offers insights into API usage, while the Health Check endpoint confirms service availability and status.
Send a POST request with a JSON body containing "vat" (EU VAT number with its 2-letter country prefix, e.g. DE123456789; use XI for Northern Ireland) and/or "iban" (e.g. {"iban":"DE89370400440532013000"}). You can pass either or both fields in one request.
The response data is organized into main objects, such as "iban" for IBAN validation results and "usage" for API usage metrics. Each object contains relevant fields, making it easy to access specific information like validity and bank details.
VAT data comes live from the EU's VIES (VAT Information Exchange System), covering all 27 EU member states plus Northern Ireland (XI); company name/address are returned where the member state provides them. Results are cached for 24h, and during VIES outages a last-known-good result is used (or valid:null with a retry hint). IBANs are validated off
Typical use cases include verifying the validity of VAT numbers for invoicing, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, and validating IBANs for secure financial transactions. This helps businesses avoid errors in billing and payments.
Valid:null means the upstream VIES service for that member state was unavailable and there was no cached (last-known-good) result to fall back on. The response includes a retry hint; please retry later. It is not a failed request and does not mean the VAT number is invalid.
Not yet. UK (GB) VAT validation via HMRC is coming soon. Northern Ireland (XI) VAT numbers are already supported via VIES, along with all 27 EU member states.

You can monitor your API usage through the response headers included with every request:
x-zyla-api-calls-monthly-used: Shows the total number of API requests you have used during the current billing period.
x-zyla-api-calls-monthly-remaining: Shows the number of API requests you have remaining for the current billing period.
