The Global Living Costs API provides access to the Cost of Living Index by country, including current and historical data. Users can retrieve information on the overall Cost of Living Index, Rent Index, and other related financial metrics, with the ability to compare specific years, particularly focusing on the year 2025.

Each endpoint returns specific indices related to the cost of living in a country. For example, the "cost living index by country" endpoint returns the overall cost of living index, while the "rent index by country" endpoint provides the rent index. Each response includes the year and the corresponding index value.

The key fields in the response data include "year" and the respective index value (e.g., "cost_of_living_index," "rent_index," "groceries_index," etc.). These fields allow users to identify the year of the data and the specific index being queried.

The response data is organized as a JSON array containing objects. Each object includes the "year" and the relevant index value, making it easy to parse and utilize in applications. For example, a response might look like `[{"year":2025,"cost_of_living_index":64.9}]`.

The primary parameter required for each endpoint is the "country," which must be specified to retrieve the corresponding index. Users can obtain a list of available countries using the "get countries available" endpoint before making requests to other endpoints.

Each endpoint provides specific indices: the cost of living index, rent index, groceries index, restaurant index, and local purchasing power index. This allows users to analyze various aspects of living costs in different countries.

Users can utilize the returned data by comparing indices across countries or years to analyze cost trends. For instance, comparing the rent index between two countries can help assess housing affordability in different regions.

Typical use cases include economic research, relocation planning, and financial analysis. Researchers may analyze historical trends, while individuals might use the data to compare living costs when considering moving to a new country.

Data accuracy is maintained through regular updates and quality checks, ensuring that the indices reflect current economic conditions. The API aggregates data from reliable sources to provide users with trustworthy information on living costs.

Prices are determined by a recurring monthly or yearly subscription, depending on the chosen plan.
API calls are deducted from your plan based on successful requests. Each plan comes with a specific number of calls that you can make per month. Only successful calls, indicated by a Status 200 response, will be counted against your total. This ensures that failed or incomplete requests do not impact your monthly quota.
Zyla API Hub works on a recurring monthly subscription system. Your billing cycle will start the day you purchase one of the paid plans, and it will renew the same day of the next month. So be aware to cancel your subscription beforehand if you want to avoid future charges.
To upgrade your current subscription plan, simply go to the pricing page of the API and select the plan you want to upgrade to. The upgrade will be instant, allowing you to immediately enjoy the features of the new plan. Please note that any remaining calls from your previous plan will not be carried over to the new plan, so be aware of this when upgrading. You will be charged the full amount of the new plan.
To check how many API calls you have left for the current month, refer to the 'X-Zyla-API-Calls-Monthly-Remaining' field in the response header. For example, if your plan allows 1,000 requests per month and you've used 100, this field in the response header will indicate 900 remaining calls.

You can monitor your API usage through the response headers included with every request:

x-zyla-api-calls-monthly-used: Shows the total number of API requests you have used during the current billing period.
x-zyla-api-calls-monthly-remaining: Shows the number of API requests you have remaining for the current billing period.

The 'X-Zyla-RateLimit-Reset' header shows the number of seconds until your rate limit resets. This tells you when your request count will start fresh. For example, if it displays 3,600, it means 3,600 seconds are left until the limit resets.
