Each endpoint returns public posts and comments from Reddit, including details like post titles, content, author information, timestamps, and comment threads. For example, the "GET One post" endpoint provides a single post's details, while "GET Comments on a post" returns the associated comments.
Key fields in the response data typically include "id," "title," "author," "created_utc," "body," and "score." For comments, additional fields like "parent_id" and "depth" may be present to indicate the comment structure.
Parameters vary by endpoint but may include "subreddit" for filtering posts, "author" for retrieving user-specific content, and "sort" for ordering results. For example, "GET Posts by an author" can accept the author's username as a parameter.
Response data is typically organized in JSON format, with a structured hierarchy. For instance, a post response includes metadata (like title and author) and an array of comments, each with its own attributes, making it easy to parse and utilize.
The data is sourced directly from Reddit's public posts and comments, ensuring real-time access to user-generated content. The API captures this data seconds after it is posted, maintaining high relevance and timeliness.
Typical use cases include sentiment analysis, trend monitoring, content aggregation, and social media research. Developers can use the API to build applications that analyze discussions, track popular topics, or visualize user engagement on Reddit.
Users can utilize the returned data by integrating it into applications for real-time analytics, creating dashboards, or conducting research. For example, the "GET Live feed of every new post" can be used to display trending topics as they emerge.
When encountering partial or empty results, users should implement error handling to check for the presence of data fields. For example, if the "comments" array is empty, the application can display a message indicating no comments are available for that post.
