The API returns detailed information about a vessel's current position, status, and other relevant data in real-time. Key data points include the vessel's MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity), which uniquely identifies the ship, along with its IMO number (International Maritime Organization identifier). The vessel’s exact latitude and longitude coordinates are provided, allowing you to track its location. Additionally, the API gives the timestamp of the data, ensuring you know when the information was recorded.
Other important information includes the course (direction the ship is traveling in), speed (in knots), heading (the ship’s orientation), and navigation status (whether the vessel is at anchor, underway, etc.). The name and callsign of the vessel are also returned for easier identification.
The API provides details about the ship’s dimensions, such as its length (A), breadth (B), and height (C), as well as the draught (how deep the vessel sits in the water). It also gives the destination port and the LOCODE (location code), identifying the destination port globally.
The Vessel Position API returns real-time data about a vessel's location, speed, course, heading, navigation status, and details such as name, MMSI, IMO, dimensions, and destination port.
Key fields in the response include latitude, longitude, speed (in knots), course, heading, navigation status, vessel name, MMSI, IMO, dimensions (length, breadth, height, draught), and destination port with its LOCODE.
The Get Position endpoint requires two parameters: IMO (International Maritime Organization number) and MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity) to retrieve specific vessel data.
The response data is structured in a JSON format, with key-value pairs representing various attributes of the vessel, such as position, speed, and identification details, making it easy to parse and utilize.
The data is sourced from maritime tracking systems and databases that aggregate real-time information from vessels, ensuring comprehensive coverage and accuracy in vessel tracking.
Typical use cases include maritime logistics tracking, fleet management, safety monitoring, and research on shipping routes and vessel behavior in various maritime regions.
Users can customize their requests by specifying different IMO and MMSI values to retrieve information for specific vessels, allowing for targeted data retrieval based on their needs.
Users can expect consistent data patterns, such as regularly updated position coordinates and speed, along with navigation status changes, which can be analyzed for trends in vessel movement and behavior.
