The Post Code Lookup endpoint returns detailed information about a specific UK postcode, including geographic coordinates, administrative district, region, and various identifiers like NHS health authority and parliamentary constituency.
Key fields in the response include "postcode," "country," "longitude," "latitude," "admin_district," "region," and "parliamentary_constituency." These fields provide essential location and administrative details.
The response data is structured in JSON format, with a "status" field indicating the request outcome and a "result" object containing detailed postcode information, organized into key-value pairs for easy access.
The endpoint provides information such as geographic coordinates, administrative boundaries, health authorities, and electoral regions, enabling users to understand the location context of a postcode.
Users can customize requests by specifying different UK postcodes in the API call. Each postcode will return unique data related to that specific location, allowing for targeted lookups.
The data is sourced from the Royal Mail's Postcode Addresses File, ensuring high accuracy and reliability for UK postcode information, as it is maintained by the official postal service.
Data accuracy is maintained through regular updates from the Royal Mail, which ensures that the postcode information reflects current geographical and administrative changes in the UK.
Typical use cases include validating user addresses during checkout processes, enhancing location-based services, and integrating postcode lookup features in applications for improved user experience.
